Here you are on the lower part of the floodplains. These parts experience frequent floodingΒ π(sometimes even in summer) and the plant species composition is different because of that. Not all plants can tolerate such conditions!
To unravel what plants tell about their environment, Heinz Ellenberg developed the Ellenberg-values in the ’70s. These values (available for wild plants , shrubs and trees inΒ Western and Central Europe) can be used to translate the plant πΎπΏπ± species composition to abiotic values. He developed the values for moisture, pH, nutrient availability, temperature, salinity and light.
Now it is time to put this into practice!
