Point of interest 4: Dike

You found point of interest 4!

Welcome to the Dike: the 4th location and the final destination of your field excursion. We are on the dike called Grebbedijk, which runs between Wageningen and Rhenen and protects Gelderse Vallei against high water from the Lower Rhine (Dutch: Nederrijn). The total number of citizens living in the Gelderse Vallei is over 250 000, so the dike is a highly important infrastructure. It was constructed in the 12th century (for the first time mentioned in 1359). Currently, the dike is being reinforced with respect to environmental challenges including climate change. You can get more information from https://www.grebbedijk.com/.

Again, here you will answer a few questions on the topics of landscape, soil, water, and land use.
