This is the start of the so-called “kabouterpad”, Dutch for ‘gnome track’. Just follow the gnome signs.
Keep your eyes peeled for forest birds! Eurasian nuthatch (Sitta europaea; NL: Boomklever) are colourful small birds that climb the stem up and down and are quite noisy. Sometimes you can see bright pink-red male Bullfinches (Pyrrhula pyrrhula; NL: Goudvink), usually together with a female, which is a bit more drab in colour. For the lucky few: Middle spotted woodpeckers (Dendrocoptes medius; NL: Middelste bonte specht) house in the forest on the west side of the valley. Great white egrets (Ardea alba; NL: Grote zilverreiger) are sometimes fishing in the streams.
Good luck!
